The Importance of Information, Communication and Technology in Liberia
Related to country: Liberia

We have set up an internet cafe in paynesville Monrovia,Liberia beginning with 2 computers and have extended to six computers now. we provide, teachers, students, and Local community members the opportunity to use the internet in their work. We try to establish a computer literate community that can effectively use the tools availble in their research. we hope to get on board partners that are interested in our work. We are running a RESOURSE CENTER, where we EXCHANGE and INTERACT with different groups in our locality. Our interest in this area, comes from the fact that Liberians should be able to use this media for promoting PEACE, DEMOCRACY and GOOD GOVERNANCE, components that are essencial to the long term development of this war ravaged country. Liberians are eager to LEARN new IDEAS and WAYS on carring out their day to day activities. Once information is not getting to the people on time for them to take good decisions, we will still have problems. The UN is taking care of security in Liberia with 15,000 troops and international police, but putting in place a strong PUBLIC INFORMATION mechanism to inform people on SECURITY issues, will help in preparing Liberians for the post UN era.
